In celebration of Earth Day 2020, Jetson’s Customer Service guru, Erin, is taking over the blog to show us the ways you can repurpose your Jetson bottles.
At Jetson, we try to do what we can to be environmentally responsible year round. That’s why we made the decision to use glass bottles instead of plastic – most plastic bottles are filled with a bunch of unnatural chemicals anyways, so good riddance!
Now, we could have written a blog post telling you why the three R’s – reduce, reuse, recycle – are more important now than ever. But you know we’re all about taking the guesswork out of health, and so we’re going to apply that mission to Earth Day this year. We’re going to be sharing the ways we love to reuse our glass Jetson bottles. Sure, whatever you do with it won’t be as good as a month’s supply of Jetson probiotics, but that’s why you have a new bottle coming every month, remember?
Jetson’s President George did this for his wife for their anniversary, and we loved the idea so much we’re passing it on to you!
Use craft paint to decorate the outside of the bottle however you like. On the inside, write notes for your loved one to open every day. What exactly? Well, that’s entirely up to you – we can’t do everything for you.
Create Your Own Spice Mix
This can be a choose your own adventure spice mix. Or, if you’re a “follow a recipe to the T” type of person, check out these two easy recipes.
Italian Spice Mix:
Combine oregano, basil, parsley, thyme, rosemary, garlic powder and salt in a small bowl. Use a whisk or the back of a spoon to crush the dried herbs into a powder. Pour into a small glass container and secure with an airtight lid (lucky for you, that’s your Jetson bottle). Store up to 1 year. Enjoy!
- 1 tablespoon dried oregano
- 1 tablespoon dried basil
- 1 tablespoon dried parsley
- 2 teaspoons dried thyme
- 2 teaspoons dried rosemary
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
Add the following spices to red wine or apple cider for a festive spiced drink. This makes a great stocking stuffer or gift during the holiday season!
- whole cloves
- dried orange and lemon peel
Infusing olive oil or your favorite clean oil with herbs or spices is a fantastic way to add flavor to a recipe or help calm your mind with amazing fragrances. Again, this can be a choose your own adventure activity. If you love rosemary, toss some rosemary in there! Lemons? Those too! Here’s a great recipe for garlic-infused olive oil – add it to pasta, on top of pizza, or your favorite pesto recipe.
Earth Day Activities for Kids
A lot of us are spending Earth Day inside this year, unfortunately. And if you’re a parent, you might have reached the point where you’re desperately searching for activities to keep the kids busy. Fear not – we’re here to give you some ways to celebrate Earth Day inside with your kids this year.
Use any kind of paint (I’m a big fan of glitter paint) to customize a treasure jar. Have your little one put any special small items in it for safekeeping.
These are designed to soothe and relax, so go ahead, make these with your kids and then use them for yourself, we won’t tell. Mix water, glitter, and food coloring into your Jetson bottle, give it a shake, then relax as you watch the glitter settle in the bottom of the jar.
The swirling patterns created by the shaken glitter are ideal for calming down a stressed out child (or adult, for that matter) – which is why they’re often called “calm down jars.”
All you need is a little dirt, seeds of your choice, and your Jetson bottle to start your own little garden. Plant a flower for Mother’s Day or some herbs to spice up your kitchen. Keep your newly planted seeds moist and in the sun. Decorate the jar with bug stickers and a cute tag so you remember what you planted.
Make a small batch of playdough and store your colors in different bottles. We love this recipe.
No food coloring? No problem. Use things like turmeric, herbs or cinnamon to make the playdough colorful and smell nice. Just keep an eye on the kids to make sure they don’t eat it (yes, it had to be said)!
If you’re not feeling particularly inspired or crafty, here are everyday ways you can use your Jetson bottles (aside from improving your gut health).
Travel Liquid Containers
Whether it be your espresso, your preferred dairy-free milk option, or a homemade wellness “shot,” our glass bottles are small enough to meet TSA regulations so you don’t have to leave anything behind on travel day.
Storage for Roasted Almonds
Jetson bottles are a great vessel for storing nuts, because our airtight lids keep them from going stale. Stefan, our co-founder, is a big fan of these roasted almonds. Just ask the Jetson employee who received them as a secret santa gift last year!
Use these as favors for a party, give them as a small thank you gift, or for yourself – why not!
